IMPLO

Draw remaining systematic effects in photo residuals

This program displays systematic effects in the photo residuals. It also creates a list file named implo.lis in the current working directory whenever the drawing changes.

The main purpose of IMPLO is to detect systematic effects in the photo residuals and to select the necessary additional parameters to eliminate these effects.

Getting started

After starting IMPLO, a file-selection window opens.

Select the following files:

  • ITERA file containing the BINGO adjustment results and camera data
  • Image-residual file containing the remaining discrepancies

While the file-selection window is open, changing the project directory in BINGO Manager affects this application.

To reset all filenames, select Settings > Set File Defaults.

To reset all graphics parameters, select Settings > Set Drawing Defaults.

Click Draw to open the graphics window and close the file-selection window. To return to the file-selection window, select File > File Selection.

After you click Draw, the program checks whether itera.dat and imresi.dat exist. If both files exist, the program reads them. It reads all image coordinates and residuals from imresi.dat. From itera.dat, it reads the camera ID for each photo, the sensor IDs for the cameras in use (if additional parameters are used), and the CCD sensor limits for user-defined CCD limits. See "User-defined sensor type" in the BINGO manual, section 5.1, ADPA.

If a file is missing or an error occurs while reading it, the IMPLO window remains open so that you can select other files. Click Draw to create the graphics window. The graphics display parameters are explained below.

Only one of the two windows—the file-selection window or the graphics window—can be open. To open a second graphics window, start another IMPLO task.

Properties of the graphics window

If the project contains more than one camera, select one camera or select All. Adjust the settings in the graphics window as needed. Drag any edge or corner to resize the window.

To specify the drawing size, select Settings > Set Drawing Size and enter the preferred value.

Each grid cell represents an area of the image. The program combines all residuals in that area from all photos and displays them as a single vector. No systematic effects should be visible.

The vector size can be set automatically or selected individually (see "Vector scale"). To get a wide range of possible values for this selection, the potential value ("10 power") can be set. Smaller values provide longer vectors.

The size of the longest vector is displayed in the upper right corner. A scale is given below the frame. It is valid for the vectors and for the radial effects.

The displayed frame is always a square, even if the camera format is rectangular.

As you move the mouse across the drawing surface, Position, cell shows the image coordinates and cell number. Distortion x, y, s shows the x' and y' image distortion in the cell and the vector length.

If an item on the left side of the window is highlighted, use the mouse wheel to change its value. Change the project text in the Text for drawing field.

The background color can be blue or white. Select Bold to draw bold lines and enlarged symbols.

The BMP File button opens a window for copying the current graphics to the clipboard or saving them to a file in the project directory. Without opening this window, press Ctrl+C to copy the graphics to the clipboard or Ctrl+S to save them to a file. If the last two characters of the filename are digits (for example, Implo_Graph_00), the number is incremented automatically. This prevents existing files from being overwritten. Other filenames have no protection against overwriting.

Press Ctrl+V to paste the graphics from the clipboard into Windows applications such as Microsoft Photo Editor, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Paint, Adobe Photoshop, or IrfanView. The free IrfanView application provides a convenient printing interface for creating paper copies of the drawings.

Press Esc to close the graphics window.
